ADHD / ADD
Do you need more sleep, fewer meltdowns and increased focus that are a result from ADHD?
What is really going on with ADHD kids and adults?
When someone gets diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, there isn’t any blood test or even a paper test. The diagnosis is given based on behavior. This is incredibly subjective and all too often the diagnosis leads to the prescription of very powerful drugs that are related to cocaine. But parents often don’t see any other option and buy the drugs.
There is good news, however. There are other options that don’t involve dangerous prescription drugs. Very often the problem causing ADHD is an over-active brain. The brain of most people is able to calm down once they enter a classroom or other similar situation. But the brain in kids labeled ADHD doesn’t do that. It stays active which causes the child to be overly active in a situation when they should be calm. It is also hard for them to take in new information, so grades suffer.
The first thing we need to do is determine if the brain is overactive and if so, why. Then, we remove the problems causing the over-activity. Once the ADHD symptoms are reduced the child will be able to assimilate in the classroom like a more normal child.
