The Dangers of Antidepressants

When depression hits,  antidepressants are often the first thought. They have become so common in our culture that many people have started accepting them as having little to no risk.  But there are things you need to know before you make this decision

Here are the facts:

  • no one knows exactly how antidepressant medications work.
  • Even though Prozac was released over 30 years ago – no study has been performed on it’s long term effects longer than 13 weeks
  • about 50% of kids placed on antidepressants for more than 5 years will convert to bipolar diagnosis and medications.
  • 25% of adults on antidepressants will convert to a bipolar diagnosis
  • Doubles your risk of bone fractures
  • doubles your risk of Suicide
  • Triples your risk of diabetes
  • 32% increased risk of heart disease
  • Linked to violent behavior, murder, suicide and more.

Is There An Alternative To Antidepressant Medication?

Most traditional treatments focus on managing the symptoms through medication or talk therapy. While these can be effective, they often miss a key piece of the puzzle – your nervous system. Think of it as the body’s superhighway, transmitting signals of stress, pleasure, fear, and calm. If your superhighway is congested with stress, it can become overworked and out of balance, contributing to feelings of depression and anxiety.

🌿 This is where we come in. 🌿

Our unique wellness approach focuses on restoring balance to your nervous system. By addressing the physical tension that often accompanies emotional stress, we aim to create a more relaxed state where your body can better process life’s ups and downs.

Imagine a traffic jam suddenly clearing up, allowing a smoother, calmer journey. That’s our goal for your nervous system so you can experience your life with calm and ease.

How We Approach This Issue on Your First Visit

  1. We check to determine if your nervous system is working properly.  The nervous system controls every function in the body.   If this system is compromised it can affect how your brain functions and the symptoms of depression can occur
  2.   We Test for the effects of stressEveryone knows that living with major stress can affect your mood and even brain function.  But what many don’t realize is that lots of little stresses can add up to the same effect as a major stress.  This is dangerous because so many people living with depression don’t realize that stress is a factor because any stress they have is “small”.
  3. We give diet suggestions.  It is well established that some foods can cause depression type thoughts.  Eliminating these foods can make a big difference.
  4. We test for certain nutrients.  There are several nutrients can alter the function of the brain.  We test you to determine if there are any deficiencies in certain nutrients that could account for some of the issues.
  5. We determine if Sleep is an issue.  Sleep is a major factor in depression for a lot of people.  We first determine if this is an issue, and if it is, we address this in multiple ways to get healthy sleep in your life
  6. Other factors are also addressed.  It is established that the hippocampus center of your brain plays a big role in depression.  We can provide multiple ways to increase the size of this brain center which can make a big difference.

There is Hope – There is Help

The culture today is so set on using drugs to solve every problem that sometimes we can’t see any other options.  We all know that every drug has some type of side effects and it is very understandable that when you are altering the chemicals of the brain, the consequences could be devastating.   This is especially true because no one even knows the basics of what antidepressants do to our brain and body.  If you or someone you love is dealing with depression, I urge you to give us a call or message us below.  We have helped hundreds of patients over the years and we want to help you too.  Call 402-333-4848 and schedule your exam and consultation.  You will receive a special discount just by mentioning this website.  You can also text us at 531-600-9420 or simply use the message opportunity below.
