Did You Know…

The Liver is one of the most important organs in the body and it is second in size only to the skin.  It performs over 500 functions for you every day. Detoxification is probably the most important function of the liver.  It receives 1.5 quarts of blood every minute which is filtered to pull out alcohol, toxins from drugs, food and water! A healthy liver will transform the potentially harmful substances into harmless products which are eliminated in the bile or urine. It plays a huge role in regulating sugar (if it’s high it turns glucose into glycogen, it it’s low it turns amino acids into glucose), breaking down carbohydrates and storing nutrients absorbed from the small intestine. The liver makes different hormones, bile, albumin, cholesterol and many more. A livers work is never done.

When your liver becomes sick it can not do its jobs properly. You may experience symptoms like lethargy, depression, anxiety, improper digestion, headaches, increased weight, muscle and joint pain.
Luckily the liver is the most regenerative organ in the body so a lot of times it doesn’t take much to reverse the damage that has been done.
What You Can Do
As always start with eating healthy, plenty of dark green vegetables and berries. Other foods like avocado, lemons, garlic and turmeric are also very good for your liver.
Water is also very important for the liver and its filtration processes, you should be drinking ½ your weight is ounces every day, if you weigh 150lbs you should be drinking at least 75 ounces of water a day. Other foods like avocado, lemons, garlic and turmeric are also very good for your liver.
Avoid toxins!!!! Alcohol and smoking are the BIG culprits that you should avoid. When alcohol is broken down the resulting chemical reaction can damage its cells causing inflammation and scarring (also causes potential harm to brain and stomach lining).
Watch your medications!!!  Check the side effects and drug interactions to make sure you are safe, Google the medication learn as much about it as you can, how it works and what organs is has an effect on. Medications are synthetic and toxic; everything from antidepressants, birth control and pain relievers and your liver is responsible for filtering it all.  Even over the counter medications have side effects so pay close attention to all of it.

Also the herbs Milk Thistle and Dandelion are amazing for helping the liver.
It’s also very important to remember that all your organs are run by nerves. Nerves come from the spine and if there is a misalignment in the spine that will stop the nerve from functioning properly ultimately creating symptoms and malfunction in organs.
These suggestions should help you maintain a very healthy liver and may help you regenerate a liver that needs a bit of help.
