Did you know that there are over 150 different types of headaches? If you said, “No” you are not alone. But that is getting way too complicated for this post. I am going to give you the basics on the different types of headaches so if you are dealing with a headaches, you can understand a bit better as to what type you have.
Tension Headache
This is the most common type of headache in teens and adults. The pain is mild to moderate and will come and go as the day goes on. Most of the time there are no other symptoms.
Migraine Headaches
These headaches can last anywhere from 4 hours to 3 days and anywhere from 1 to 4 times a month. The pain is described as a pounding or throbbing pain.They can be accompanied with sensitivity to light noise or smells. You may experience nausea, vomiting or even an upset stomach. Children can get these however usually not more than once a month.
Cluster Headaches
These are the strongest headaches of all. Usually the pain is around the eye and is described as an intense burning or piercing pain. Most of the time the pain is so bad that you can’t sit still, you have to walk around during the attack. They are called cluster headaches because you usually get them in clusters of 1 to 3 times a day and the clusters can happen 2 weeks to 3 months long. Men get these more than women.
Sinus Headaches
Sinus headaches are characterized with pain in the cheekbones, forehead or bridge of your nose. You will usually have other symptoms like a runny nose, fever, or a swollen face.
These are the most common types headaches and if you are dealing with headaches and want to get them to stop rather than just taking care of the pain when they happen, a chiropractor can be a great benefit because there is normally some reason that the pain keeps coming back.
