Coffee Reduces Risk Of Diabetes

Well over half the population drinks coffee, I myself and not a fan – I don’t like the taste and there are draw backs to drinking it. However there are some perks to drinking this hot antioxidants rich drink!
There was a study performed in Korea that examined 3,500 people who were pre-diabetic. The researchers wanted to determine if drinking coffee would slow the progression of diabetes in these patients. They followed them for several years. And they used a number of analyses to try to isolate the impact of coffee and compare the coffee drinkers to control populations.
The results were interesting! They found that coffee actually did lower the risk of diabetes progression. The biggest impact was had by people who drank 3 cups of black coffee a day. Adding cream and sugar lowered the benefits but only by a little.
PLEASE understand that there is a big difference between adding a little cream and sugar and adding heavy doses of flavored syrups and whipped cream. That type of drink on a regular basis is going to increase your risk of diabetes even if there is a little bit of actual coffee in the drink.
The big takeaway… enjoy your coffee in the morning. If you want to add a little cream and sugar that’s OK too. If you’re pre-diabetic, it could reduce your risk of developing full blown diabetes. And there are some antioxidants also!
