Depression is a problem that I have written on before but I have noticed a big influx of people who are seeking help so I want to revisit this topic.

If you suffer from depression, you are not alone.

* There has been a 22% increase in prescriptions since 2001
*25% of women are taking a prescription for depression (1 in 4)

Currently women are 2x more likely to have this diagnosis than men, but that will soon be changing. Why? Because boys are much more likely to be diagnosed with ADD/ ADHD than girls and we are seeing a huge progression from kids on ADD meds to adults diagnosed depression.

The fact is that Antidepressants are addictive and dangerous. The exact mechanism of how the drugs prescribed for this condition isn’t known although it is thought to have something to do with Serotonin in the Central Nervous system, we haven’t confirmed that.

What’s really scary is that even though antidepressant drugs have been around for many years, they haven’t done a study on the effectiveness that goes more than 13 weeks. That’s basically criminal in my opinion. You know that there plenty of money generated to conduct a study. Wouldn’t the maker of the drugs or at the very least the doctors who prescribe the drugs want to know something about how well it works?

Printed right on the box of the drug is the warning:

Antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents and young adults in short term studies of Major Depressive Disorder and other disorders. Anyone considering the use of PROZAC or any other antidepressant must balance this risk with the clinical need

At the very least a doctor prescribing this drug should be reevaluating the patient every 13 weeks to see what is going on. You never hear of that happening.

Hopefully some of this wakes you up and makes you question the diagnosis and the treatments. If you or someone you love is dealing with this diagnosis and is either on the drugs or considering taking them, please have them call the office. I have some incredible information for them on what could be a much more effective way to look at this issue. The percentage of people on antidepressant medications that evolve into a diagnosis of bipolar is also starting to skyrocket.

This is nothing to mess with. Let us show you some options for yourself or your children ( yes I said children because kids as young as 8 are being put on these drugs on a regular basis.
