Premenstrual Syndrome
It’s not all in your head!
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects millions of women during their reproductive years. PMS can affect menstruating women of any age and the effect is different for each woman. For some women, PMS is just a monthly bother. For others, it may be so severe that it makes it hard to even get through the day. Up to 90 percent of menstruating women report having one or more premenstrual symptoms, and 10 to 20 percent report disabling, incapacitating symptoms.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is characterized by:
- mood swings
- swollen abdomen
- headaches
- back pain
- food cravings
- fatigue
- irritability
- depression
These symptoms will likely show up in the days before a woman’s monthly period. The severity of these symptoms can range from mild to incapacitating and may last from a couple of days to two weeks.
Many women today, while needing to overcome the symptoms of menstrual or premenstrual discomfort, are unwilling to compromise their health to do that. They search for a natural solution that avoids drugs.
Chiropractic Care Can Help!
Your nervous system controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body.
Your spine, especially your lower back, when out of whack, can put pressure on these nerves and alter the way they send their signals. This could affect how the body is working and cause you to experience these symptoms. A simple computerized test can make a big difference in the nerve flow and get you back to a normal life.
When a woman’s reproductive system is disrupted by altered nerve flow, several symptoms can occur:
- Heavy bleeding or severe cramping
- Missed periods or infertility
- Cells that normally line the uterus travel and implant themselves elsewhere in the body (i.e. endometriosis) causing bleeding, pain and reduced fertility.
Many women with altered nerve flow have seen an improvement in their health while under chiropractic care.
This is because Chiropractic restores your body’s nerves to a more normal and healthy function because when the nerves are working correctly they help the entire body work the way it’s designed to.
Chiropractic care is shown to be helpful in relieving many PMS symptoms in several studies. When the participants were receiving two to three adjustments during the weeks leading up to the onset of the menstrual cycle, their symptoms greatly decreased.
